PAT Testing in Leicester & Leicestershire
Portable Appliance Testing — universally shortened to PAT testing — is the periodic inspection and electrical testing of portable and movable equipment to verify it’s safe to use. It isn’t a named legal requirement in its own right, but it remains the most widely accepted way of meeting the duties set out in the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), both of which require employers to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition.

What We Test & How Often
Any appliance with a plug designed to be connected to a socket falls within scope: kettles, computers, monitors, extension leads, IT equipment, power tools, commercial kitchen appliances, and cleaning equipment. Fixed equipment (wired directly into the installation) is outside PAT scope and should instead be covered by your periodic electrical installation condition report, or EICR.
Testing frequency depends on the environment and the equipment type — not on an arbitrary annual cycle. A construction-site power tool might need checking every three months; an office desktop computer may only need testing every two to four years. We help you set a sensible re-test schedule based on the IET Code of Practice risk tables for your premises, so you’re not paying to test low-risk kit more often than needed.
Every appliance is visually inspected, electrically tested (earth continuity, insulation resistance, and polarity as applicable), labelled with a pass/fail tag, and logged. You receive a full digital asset register showing every item tested, serial numbers where available, results, and the next test due date — everything an insurer or HSE inspector would reasonably expect to see.
