A functioning fire alarm is the legal and practical backbone of any commercial fire safety strategy. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for your premises has a duty to ensure an appropriate fire detection and warning system is installed and maintained — and for the vast majority of workplaces in Leicestershire, that means meeting BS 5839-1 (the British Standard covering fire detection and alarm systems for non-domestic buildings).
