Fire Extinguishers in Leicester & Leicestershire
Fire extinguishers are the first-response tool in any fire safety strategy — the kit that buys you the seconds needed to tackle a small fire before it grows, or to create a safer escape route when one doesn’t. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for any non-domestic premises must provide appropriate firefighting equipment, and BS 5306-8 (the British Standard covering selection and positioning of portable fire extinguishers) sets out how many you need, which types, and where they go.
Bryants Fire supplies, installs, commissions, and services fire extinguishers across Leicester, Leicestershire, and the wider Midlands. Our engineers are FIA-trained (Fire Industry Association), and every new extinguisher is commissioned on site as required by current regulations — not just handed over in a box. We cover the full range of extinguisher types: water and water-additive, foam (AFFF), dry powder, CO2, wet chemical for commercial kitchens, and specialist units for lithium-ion battery risks, which are an increasingly common requirement in workplaces with e-bikes, power tools, or charging infrastructure.

Servicing, Discharge Tests & Replacement
BS 5306-3:2017 requires every extinguisher to undergo an annual basic service by a competent person, with more intensive checks at longer intervals. At five years, water, foam, powder, and wet chemical extinguishers need an extended service, which includes a discharge test — the only way to confirm the extinguisher will actually perform when needed. At ten years, CO2 extinguishers require an overhaul and hydraulic stretch test, which has to be done at the manufacturer; in practice, we supply a service exchange unit so you’re not left uncovered.
Every extinguisher we service is tagged with the service date, engineer signature, and next service due date, and you receive a certificate of conformity for your fire log book. For Leicester-based clients we schedule servicing around your working day — most sites are completed in a single visit, and we can combine extinguisher servicing with your fire alarm and emergency lighting visits to minimise disruption.
If an extinguisher fails its service, we’ll tell you straight — repair isn’t always the right answer, and a 15-year-old unit that’s been through two discharge tests usually isn’t worth keeping over a new one.
